Our Instructors:
Michelle Jackman: Ms. Michelle grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she began her ballet studies at the age of 10 with Miss Jane Reid of June Runyon School of Ballet. She performed with Tulsa Ballet Theatre’s The Nutcracker for 4 years and Tulsa Dance Theatre for 7 years. She continued her studies with The School of Ballet West and The Christensen Centre (now The Ballet Centre in Murray) studying with the late Willam Christensen (founder of Ballet West) and also Michelle Armstrong. She studied and performed with Anatoli Kucheruk, renowned teacher at the Kirov Academy and former soloist with “Stars of the Bolshoi.” Her repertoire included soloist pieces in Gershwin, Raymonda, Graduation Ball, Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Paquita, Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, and other featured solos. She studied at the University of Utah and from there transferred with her husband down to Hurricane, UT. Along with teaching in St. George, she traveled to New York City during summer programs and had the privilege to study with great teachers such as David Howard, Dawn Hillen, and Lisa Lockwood to name a few. In New York she studied at Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, and American Ballet Theatre. She has continued her teaching studies with Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Ruth Page Center for the Arts in Chicago, and Classical Ballet Academy in Bentonville, Arkansas. In August 2009 she traveled to Denver, Colorado and studied with Beverly F. Spell and Annie W. Spell, Ph.D. and certified with their Leap 'N Learn-A Comprehensive Early Childhood Dance Syllabus. Most recently in August 2010, she traveled to New York City to study with American Ballet Theatre and their National Training Curriculum. Ms. Michelle is an ABT Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT Teacher Training Intensive in Primary through Level 3 of the ABT National Training Curriculum.
Carrie Hansen: We welcome Ms. Carrie to our permanent staff for the 2011 School Year. Ms. Carrie is a safety certified, professional member of the United States Association of Gymnastics. She was a competitive gymnast for 8 years in her youth and has been coaching in the community for the past 7. Currently Ms. Carrie is responsible for training coaching staff as well as her competitive gymnasts at Tanglewood Studios. Working with ages 18 months to 18 years, she has loved every minute of it! She teaches our Ballet Conditioning & Flexibility class.
Jessica Edwards: Ms. Jessica joins us this year and will be teaching ages 8 and up. She started dancing at the age of 15. Under the direction of Jennie Creer-King, Ms. Jessica competed in the international ballet competition, Youth America Grand Prix in San Francisco and Denver, as well as qualifying for New York City finals in 2008. Ms. Jessica attended Houston Ballet's Ben Stevenson Academy summer intensive program in 2008. During her competition years she performed various works from Paquita, Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty and La Bayadere. Along with her classical ballet training, she also has an extensive contemporary background and we are excited to add this class to our curriculum this year. She is excited to be able to share her experiences and passion with her students!
